İSTANBUL- Turkish Airlines (TK) recorded its busiest operational weekend on record after setting new daily passenger and flight milestones during the opening days of August 2026.
The flag carrier, together with its low-cost subsidiary AJet, handled unprecedented traffic as demand continued to strengthen across its domestic and international network from İstanbul (IST), reinforcing the airline group’s position among the world’s largest global carriers.
The airline first established a new daily passenger record on Saturday before surpassing it just 24 hours later.
Sunday’s performance included record-breaking passenger volumes, the highest number of flights ever operated in a single day when cargo services were included, and another indication of sustained travel demand as Turkish Airlines enters the peak Northern Hemisphere summer season.
Turkish Airlines’ Record Operations Achievement
Turkish Airlines transported 248,922 passengers on Saturday, marking the highest daily total in the airline’s history at the time. However, that achievement lasted only one day before the airline group raised the benchmark again on Sunday.
On Sunday, Turkish Airlines and AJet carried a combined 352,715 passengers. Of that total, Turkish Airlines transported 248,318 travelers, while AJet contributed another 104,397 passengers through its growing domestic and regional network.
The operational performance was equally impressive. Together, the two airlines operated 1,970 passenger flights, including 1,388 services by Turkish Airlines and 582 flights by AJet.
When Turkish Cargo’s freighter operations were added, the airline group completed 2,034 flights in a single day, setting a new all-time operational record across passenger and cargo services.
The airline expects additional records during August as travel demand remains elevated throughout the summer holiday period and network capacity continues expanding.
Passenger Growth Reaches Record Levels
The record-breaking weekend reflects Turkish Airlines’ strong traffic performance throughout 2026. During the first six months of the year, the airline carried 44.5 million passengers, representing a 5.5% increase compared with the same period last year.
International traffic remained the primary growth driver, with passenger numbers climbing 6.6% to 29.4 million. Domestic travel also expanded, increasing 3.6% to 15.1 million passengers.
The airline’s passenger load factor improved by 2.3 percentage points to 83.7%, highlighting stronger aircraft utilization across the network.
Cargo and mail operations also posted solid gains, with transported volumes rising 13.3% to nearly 1.16 million tons during the January-June period.
These figures underline continued demand across both passenger and freight markets as Turkish Airlines strengthens its position in long-haul and regional aviation.
Global Expansion Across Continents
Turkish Airlines ended 2025 with 92.6 million passengers, an annual increase of 8.8%, while international traffic reached 60.7 million travelers after growing 11.3%. Cargo and mail volumes also increased 8.4% to almost 2.17 million tons during the year.
The carrier currently operates a fleet of 563 aircraft, including 28 dedicated freighters. Its extensive network covers 358 destinations, comprising 53 domestic and 305 international points across 133 countries, AA reported.
