LONDON– British Airways (BA) has removed the Airbus A380 from its London Heathrow Airport (LHR) to Dubai International Airport (DXB) route for the Winter 2026 to 2027 schedule, replacing the superjumbo with Boeing 777 and 787 aircraft.
The revised schedule also reduces the airline’s planned frequencies between London Heathrow (LHR) and Dubai International Airport (DXB) following ongoing operational disruptions across the Middle East. Emirates (EK) will continue to dominate the route with its extensive A380 operations.
British Airways Revises Dubai Winter Schedule
British Airways has significantly changed its plans for Dubai during the Winter 2026 to 2027 season. The airline had originally intended to operate three daily flights between London Heathrow and Dubai, including one daily Airbus A380 service alongside two Boeing 787-10 flights.
Those plans have now been withdrawn. Instead, British Airways will operate only one to two daily flights depending on the week, with no Airbus A380 scheduled on the route. Most services will be operated by Boeing 787 variants, while selected flights will use the Boeing 777-200ER.
The changes come after months of disruption across the airline’s Middle East network. British Airways suspended flights to Dubai in March 2026 following the outbreak of the conflict involving Iran. Current schedules indicate that flights to Dubai are expected to resume on October 25, 2026, which marks the beginning of the IATA Northern Hemisphere winter season.
The airline has also postponed the planned return of services to Abu Dhabi and Bahrain until 2027 as it continues adjusting its regional network.
According to Cirium data reported by Simple Flying, the revised Dubai schedule represents one of the biggest capacity reductions by British Airways in the Middle East for the upcoming winter season.

For the first week of January 2027, British Airways plans the following services between London Heathrow and Dubai:

Airbus A380 Network Shrinks Further
The removal of Dubai from the Airbus A380 network significantly reduces British Airways’ superjumbo operations this winter.
Between November 2026 and February 2027, the airline is scheduled to operate only five daily Airbus A380 departures from London Heathrow.
The aircraft will serve four destinations:
- Miami International Airport (MIA)
- O. R. Tambo International Airport (JNB)
- San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
- Singapore Changi Airport (SIN)
Singapore will once again receive Airbus A380 service from September 2026 after the aircraft’s absence from the route for more than a year.
Compared with the previous winter season, British Airways’ Airbus A380 operations will decline by approximately 28 percent. The reduction also lowers the airline’s standing among global A380 operators, moving it from the third-largest operator by scheduled flights to sixth.
Cabin Modernization Driving Fleet Changes
The reduction in Airbus A380 flying is closely linked to British Airways’ ongoing fleet refurbishment program.
The airline is upgrading all 12 Airbus A380 aircraft with redesigned cabins featuring a stronger premium focus.
Following refurbishment, total seating capacity will decrease from 469 seats to 421 seats.
The new configuration includes:
- 88 fewer Economy Class seats
- 13 additional Club Suite Business Class seats
- 29 additional Premium Economy seats
The modernization is intended to improve passenger comfort while increasing the proportion of higher-yield premium seating across the fleet.
As aircraft enter refurbishment, temporary reductions in Airbus A380 availability have affected network planning and aircraft deployment.
Emirates Continues to Dominate London and Dubai Market
While British Airways reduces capacity, Emirates (EK) continues to offer the largest schedule between London and Dubai.
During Winter 2026 to 2027, Emirates plans to operate 12 daily passenger flights between Dubai International Airport (DXB) and three London airports:
- Six daily flights to London Heathrow (LHR)
- Four daily flights to London Gatwick (LGW)
- Two daily flights to London Stansted (STN)
Beginning in December 2026, nine of those twelve daily departures are scheduled to operate with the Airbus A380.
The London to Dubai market remains one of the busiest long-haul leisure and business routes worldwide. Booking data indicates that more than 2.1 million passengers traveled solely between London and Dubai during 2025 without making onward connections.
Other airlines serving the market include Royal Brunei Airlines (BI), which resumes its London Heathrow to Bandar Seri Begawan service via Dubai in October 2026. Air Arabia (G9) has also expanded its London Gatwick to Sharjah operations, confirming a third daily Airbus A321LR flight shortly after launching the route.
