GERMANY— Lufthansa (LH) will introduce a fully redesigned premium onboard service across its global long-haul network starting May 6, marking a major milestone in its centenary celebrations.
The rollout applies to all cabin classes and aircraft types, covering flights departing from key hubs such as Frankfurt Airport (FRA) and Munich Airport (MUC).
The airline has positioned this upgrade as one of the most significant customer experience investments in its history, with more than €70 million allocated in 2026 alone.
The initiative, branded as “Future Onboard Experience” (FOX), reflects a two-year development process focused on personalization, comfort, and distinct service elements.

New Onboard Service on Lufthansa
Lufthansa has overhauled its long-haul service model from end to end, including catering, onboard processes, and service delivery.
The new concept introduces a more flexible and personalized journey for passengers, regardless of travel class.
The airline tested the service extensively on more than 110 flights and incorporated feedback from over 9,000 passengers and 500 crew members. It also conducted 28 global menu presentations across 57 airports to ensure operational readiness.
The scale of implementation is notable. Lufthansa has replaced or introduced 187 million individual items of tableware and cutlery worldwide.
Around 300,000 Business Class plates alone have been procured, highlighting the logistical complexity of the rollout.

Business Class Upgrades
Business Class passengers will experience a strong focus on culinary enhancements and service flexibility.
Lufthansa has partnered with renowned chef Johann Lafer to design new menus that emphasize quality and variety.
Passengers can now pre-select breakfast options the evening before arrival, choosing from a broader menu that includes items like smoothies, omelets, and French toast. The airline has also introduced “Sky Selection,” allowing travelers to order their second meal at any time during the flight.
A new cake service has been added as a signature onboard feature, offering a traditional coffee-and-cake experience. Updated tableware further enhances the premium feel of the cabin.

Economy Improvements Across Lufthansa
Premium Economy and Economy Class cabins also see substantial upgrades aimed at improving comfort and choice.
Premium Economy passengers will now receive enhanced meal services, including a Business Class-style appetizer, three hot meal options, and expanded beverage offerings.
Additional touches include new dessert options such as pastries and cake, along with a dedicated digestif service. Passengers in this class will also receive slippers to improve onboard comfort.
In Economy Class, Lufthansa introduces amenity kits for the first time on long-haul routes, including sleep masks and earplugs.
Meal options have expanded to three hot dishes on flights longer than ten hours, and passengers benefit from improved tableware, printed menus, and a broader beverage selection.
These changes aim to bring greater consistency and quality across all cabins while maintaining clear differentiation between service levels.
