MONTREAL- Bombardier has received Transport Canada type certification for its flagship Global 8000 business jet, the world’s fastest in its class. The milestone clears the path for entry into service later this year, with certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to follow.
The Global 8000 (BBD), which achieved a top speed of Mach 0.95 and completed its first production flight in May, marks a major step forward for Bombardier’s long-range business aviation program. The jet also sets a new benchmark for passenger comfort, achieving the industry’s lowest cabin altitude of 2,691 feet while cruising at 41,000 feet.

Bombardier Global 8000 Gets Type Certification
Transport Canada’s certification of the Global 8000 confirms Bombardier’s technical leadership and commitment to innovation.
During testing, the aircraft went supersonic, reaching Mach 1.015 with a NASA F/A-18 chase plane. Its certification represents years of rigorous testing and engineering refinement aimed at setting a new standard in the large-cabin, ultra-long-range jet category.
Powered by General Electric Passport engines, the Global 8000 combines performance with efficiency. It offers a range of 8,000 nautical miles (14,816 km), connecting city pairs such as New York (JFK) to Hong Kong (HKG) or Singapore (SIN) to Los Angeles (LAX) nonstop.
Despite its impressive range, the aircraft maintains short-field performance similar to smaller jets, allowing access to airports like London City (LCY) that many competitors cannot reach.

Cabin Comfort and Health-Focused Innovation
The Global 8000’s cabin is engineered for passenger wellness. Its industry-leading low cabin altitude—comparable to standing atop the Burj Khalifa—reduces fatigue and enhances oxygenation.
The jet’s Pũr Air system with HEPA filtration removes volatile organic compounds (VOCs), while the Soleil lighting system adjusts automatically to passengers’ circadian rhythms, reducing jet lag.
Four true living zones, including a dedicated crew rest area, create a residential atmosphere. Passengers benefit from the longest seated length in its class, ultra-quiet acoustics, and bespoke materials throughout. This combination of comfort and performance reinforces the aircraft’s appeal to global business leaders who prioritize both luxury and productivity.

Performance Without Compromise
The Global 8000’s aerodynamic wing design with leading-edge slats enhances lift and control, enabling operations at over 30% more airports than competing four-zone jets.
It delivers speed, range, and comfort without compromise, embodying Bombardier’s pursuit of precision engineering and customer-centric design.
Stephen McCullough, Senior Vice President of Engineering and Product Development, called the certification “a pivotal milestone” that reflects the expertise and dedication of Bombardier’s teams.
For the company and its clients, this certification cements the Global 8000’s position as the benchmark for high-performance business aviation.
