HONG KONG— Cathay Pacific (CX) has announced a complete evolution of its membership program, promising a smoother, simpler, and more rewarding experience for its Green, Silver, Gold, and Diamond members.
The new structure, set to take effect on January 1, 2027, aims to make status progression faster, recognition clearer, and benefits more flexible for travelers worldwide. According to Cathay, the transition period will begin on January 1, 2026, giving members a full year to prepare.

Cathay Unveils New Membership Tiers
Under the revamped system, members will no longer have their Status Points reset to zero after earning an upgrade. Instead, all accumulated points will continue contributing toward the next tier, allowing multiple upgrades within a single year.
The change is designed to reward consistent travelers and make climbing the status ladder more seamless. Cathay is also introducing a standardized membership cycle.
Instead of each member following an individual rolling system, the new structure will align everyone to a single calendar year — from January 1 to December 31.
This move aims to provide a clear and consistent timeframe for planning travel and tracking progress toward higher tiers.

Status Points Rollover
Gold members and above will now be able to roll over up to 50% of their excess Status Points into the following year. This feature gives frequent flyers a strong head start toward maintaining or advancing their membership status while preserving the benefits they’ve worked hard to earn.
In a significant addition, Cathay is launching a new top-tier level called Diamond Exec. This invitation-only status will be available to members who earn at least 2,400 Status Points in a single year.
Diamond Exec members will enjoy exclusive privileges, including access to a dedicated Relationship Manager and a suite of personalized travel experiences.

Lifetime Diamond Rewards
Longtime members are also set to benefit from a new lifetime reward option.
Members who have maintained any Diamond status for at least five cumulative years can now earn a complimentary Diamond membership year for every 6,000 Status Points accumulated over their lifetime.
There is no expiry date or cap on how many complimentary years a member can collect, allowing them to claim the reward whenever it best suits their travel schedule.

Expanded First Class Award Availability
Cathay Pacific (CX) has released a significant batch of First Class award seats between New York (JFK) and Hong Kong (HKG), including availability for two passengers on multiple dates through September.
The awards can only be booked using Asia Miles, Cathay Pacific’s own loyalty currency, as the airline now limits premium cabin access for partner programs.
Cathay Pacific’s latest First Class award release presents a rare opportunity for travelers aiming to experience its flagship long-haul product. The airline has opened up generous award space for flights between New York (JFK) and Hong Kong (HKG), a route typically difficult to secure in premium cabins using miles.
Award alerts from Straight to the Points identified a wide range of available dates from March through October, with the most extensive options in July, August, and September. This availability applies both eastbound (JFK–HKG) and westbound (HKG–JFK), offering flexibility for round-trip bookings.
Currently, First Class awards are priced at 160,000 Asia Miles one-way per person, with taxes and minimal surcharges depending on the destination.
Bookings can be made directly on Cathay Pacific’s website or by phone, where agents may hold seats for up to three days—a useful option for travelers finalizing connecting itineraries or transfers.
Booking Access and Transfer Options
These awards are exclusively available through Cathay Pacific’s Asia Miles program, as the airline has restricted First Class award space for partner redemptions such as Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan or American Airlines AAdvantage.
However, Asia Miles remains accessible for many travelers since the program partners with major credit card rewards ecosystems, including American Express Membership Rewards, Citi ThankYou Points, Capital One Miles, and Bilt Rewards. This makes it possible to transfer points directly and secure these limited First Class seats.

Lounge Access and Onward Connections
Booking Cathay Pacific First Class also grants access to the airline’s top-tier lounges, including The Pier First Class Lounge in Hong Kong—widely regarded as one of the world’s best.
Travelers can use Hong Kong as a stopover or connect onward in Business Class across Asia, Australia, or New Zealand. For itineraries ending in Hong Kong, fuel surcharges are minimal, typically leaving only government taxes to pay.
