Air India’s low-cost subsidiary, Air India Express, has confirmed that it will commence operations to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport from December 20th, with nonstop flights from Surat and Pune to the capital city of Thailand.
Bangkok will become AIX’s 15th international destination and the first of several new routes the airline plans on unveiling as part of its expansion strategy following the merger with AIX Connect.
AIX Bangkok Flights
Air India Express announced that flights from Pune to Bangkok will operate three times weekly, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays with the return legs on the same days too.
The outbound flight to the Thai city will depart PNQ at 08:40 and arrive in BKK at 14:30 with a block time of 4 hours and 20 minutes. The inbound journey will commence at 15:35 and arrive into Pune at 18:25 with a 4 hours and 20 minutes block time. It is expected that the flights will be operated by the Boeing 737 family.
AIX will compete with IndiGo as the two carriers offering nonstop flights between Pune and Bangkok,
The information for the flights between Surat and Bangkok has yet to release.
Where else does Air India Express fly internationally?
Bangkok is Air India Express’ 15th international destination. The airline has a massive presence in the United Arab Emirates, presently flying to Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah.
Elsewhere in the Middle East, routes include Dammam, Jeddah, Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, Qatari capital Doha, Muscat and Salalah in Oman as well as Bahrain and Kuwait City. AIX even flies to Dhaka, Bangladesh, and Singapore.
Air India Express expansion plans
Air India Express currently served 47 destinations in India and overseas within Asia with a feet of 90 aircraft. It expects to strengthen its presence to 55 cities by March 2025, by when 110 airplanes are expected to be a part of their setup. 155 Boeing 737 MAX family aircraft are already on order, so down the line, the airline’s fleet strength will almost triple.
Bangkok is just the first Thai destination with Phuket expected to follow shortly for AIX, alongside flights to other cities in the Far East and Southeast Asia. Besides international expansions, the Tata Group carrier will even start flights imminently to Dimapur and Patna in India.
