TOKYO- United Airlines (UA) has planned an expansion of its East Asian network with a new daily service between Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT) and Kaohsiung International Airport (KHH) in Taiwan, commencing July 11, 2025.
The new route marks United’s second destination in Taiwan, complementing its existing service to Taipei.
United Tokyo to Taiwan Flights
The Chicago-based carrier will operate the route with Boeing 737-800 aircraft, offering convenient connections through its Tokyo hub. The schedule has been optimized to facilitate seamless connections from multiple United gateways, including San Francisco (SFO) and Guam (GUM).
The flight Schedule as reported by Ishrion Aviation is as follows:
- UA837: Departs Tokyo Narita (NRT) at 5:30 PM, and arrives in Kaohsiung (KHH) at 9:00 PM
- UA838: Departs Kaohsiung (KHH) at 10:25 AM and arrives in Tokyo Narita (NRT) at 3:15 PM
The timing of these flights strategically aligns with United’s existing trans-Pacific services, particularly a flight between Tokyo and San Francisco (SFO), enabling efficient connections for passengers traveling between North America and southern Taiwan.
The schedule also accommodates connections from United’s Guam (GUM) operations, strengthening the carrier’s regional network in the Western Pacific.
Kaohsiung, Taiwan’s largest port city and industrial center, represents a strategic addition to United’s network. The city serves as a major manufacturing hub and is home to numerous technology companies, potentially capturing both business and leisure traffic. This new service will be the only direct connection between Tokyo and Kaohsiung operated by a U.S. carrier.
The route announcement comes as United continues to strengthen its position in the Asia-Pacific market, focusing on connecting secondary cities to its global network through strategic hubs.
Earlier this month, 18 passengers on a United Airlines flight from Guam to Tokyo, Japan fell ill.
Guam to Tokyo Haneda Flight
In May 2024, United Airlines (UA) began daily nonstop flights between Guam (GUM) and Tokyo Haneda International Airport (HND). This new route complements United’s current 32 weekly flights between Guam and Tokyo Narita.
As the leading airline in Guam, United operates over 87 weekly flights to 14 destinations. With more than 55 years of service in Guam, United is the only carrier connecting Guam to Osaka, Fukuoka, and Nagoya in Japan, as well as various islands in the Federated States of Micronesia, the Marshall Islands, and Palau.
United also maintains 10 daily flights to Tokyo Narita, serving New York/Newark, Houston, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Guam, and Saipan. It is the U.S. airline with the highest seat capacity from the United States to Tokyo.
