Top 10 China Aviation Markets
From 2005 to 2013, Hong Kong held the top spot as China’s top country market, with Japan and South Korea following closely behind in 2nd and 3rd position. However, in 2014, South Korea briefly took the lead before Thailand surpassed it in 2016.
Thailand solidified its dominance, reaching a peak of 12 million seats in 2019. This shift in market dynamics highlights the changing preferences of Chinese travellers and the growing importance of Thailand as a key destination.
China’s international traffic experienced a strong growth trajectory from 2010 onwards, escalating from 40 million departure seats in 2010 to 101 million departure seats in 2019.

As of the first half of 2024 (January to June), China’s international seat capacity remains 30% below pre-pandemic levels. Despite this setback, Japan, Thailand, and South Korea continue to occupy the top three positions in China’s aviation market.
