NEW YORK- BARK, a prominent global dog brand committed to ensuring the happiness of all dogs, has announced a partnership with a private jet charter company to introduce BARK Air. This innovative venture marks the world’s inaugural air travel service tailored specifically for dogs, prioritizing their comfort and convenience over that of their human companions.
Premium flights for dogs (accompanied by their humans) are now open for reservations, with the inaugural departure scheduled from New York on Thursday, May 23rd.
BARK Air: First Airline for Dogs
Traveling long distances with their pets poses significant challenges for many dog owners, especially for larger dogs that cannot be accommodated in under-seat carriers. Frequently, dogs face travel restrictions, are confined to cramped carriers, or experience the stress of cargo transportation.
Acknowledging these difficulties and responding to the growing demand for a viable solution, BARK Air offers a more enjoyable and compassionate option for dogs traveling with their human partners. This initiative reflects BARK’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing the well-being of dogs and delivering exceptional customer experiences, setting a new benchmark for canine-friendly travel experiences.
“When we launched BARK in 2011, our goal was to revolutionize the dog industry by creating products tailored for dogs and their owners. We’re thrilled to leverage the knowledge we’ve gained over the years to craft an experience centered entirely on dogs, a departure from merely accommodating them, whether on land or in the air,” said Matt Meeker, Co-Founder and CEO of BARK.
“We anticipate that this endeavor will raise awareness of our brand’s mission and principles, introduce more dog enthusiasts to the BARK community, and enhance the lives of dogs and their companions worldwide.”
How does it work?
BARK Air has reimagined the luxurious treatment typically reserved for humans in first class and redirected it all to our furry friends – from the moment of booking until touchdown; dogs will be the VIPs, indulged in a meticulously curated experience.
After booking, travelers will be contacted by a BARK Air concierge to gather details about each dog and their owner’s travel arrangements, ensuring an optimal experience.
On the day of travel, dogs and their companions will arrive at the airport 45 to 60 minutes before departure for a streamlined check-in process. While dogs socialize with fellow furry travelers, their owners will enjoy meals prepared by onsite chefs – no crates, stressful TSA checks, or screenings.
Before boarding, a highly skilled BARK Air concierge will greet dogs at the gate, assisting them in acclimating to their surroundings through socialization and dog-centric cabin preparations. The concierge will also assess each dog’s comfort level and provide additional care if necessary before or during the flight.
Before boarding, the aircraft will undergo a “Dogs Fly First” preparation, including the use of calming pheromones, music, and colors preferred by dogs. Furry passengers can access various amenities such as calming treats, noise-canceling ear muffs, and calming jackets to ensure a stress-free flight.
During the flight, dogs will be served their preferred beverages during takeoff and landing to alleviate any discomfort caused by changes in cabin pressure. Additionally, a selection of BARK-branded treats, snacks, and surprises will be provided throughout the flight, aiming to spoil both furry passengers and their companions.
Launch Routes
Upon launch, routes will cater to the New York City metro area, connecting via Westchester County Airport (HPN) with destinations including the Los Angeles area via Van Nuys (VNY) and London, England via Stansted Airport (STN).
Under this partnership, an Argus Platinum-rated charter company will oversee all aircraft, crew, maintenance, and insurance matters. At the same time, BARK concentrates on crafting and delivering an exceptional air travel experience for dogs and their companions.

“We anticipate that this endeavor will effectively amplify awareness of BARK’s mission,” remarked Zahir Ibrahim, Chief Financial Officer at BARK.
“Since we aren’t bound to advance flight bookings, we possess significant flexibility to opportunistically charter flights during periods of high demand. Simultaneously, we believe that the increased traffic to BARK.co will enhance the visibility of our complete offerings, ultimately benefiting our core business in the long run.”
