DELHI- Two women faced consequences for making bomb-related jokes on a recent Vistara (UK) flight from Delhi (DEL) to Mumbai (BOM). According to TOI, their comments led to their removal from the flight and subsequent detention by security personnel.
This incident caused a two-hour delay and triggered panic among other passengers. The unsettling event occurred on Vistara’s Delhi-Mumbai flight (UK975) on March 29.
Women Deboarded from Vistara Flight
Sources report that while onboard the aircraft, a passenger was informed via phone call about his father suffering a stroke in Delhi. He sought permission to disembark, prompting the initiation of necessary baggage reconciliation procedures. Vistara security personnel then instructed passengers to identify their cabin bags in the overhead bins.
During this process, a female passenger made a jesting remark to airline security, questioning the need for bag checks and insinuating the presence of a bomb on the plane.
Despite the officer’s polite request to refrain from such remarks, the two women traveling together persisted with similar jokes, even engaging them during a video call.
Bomb Joke Causes Flight Delay
Following the incident, another passenger, who remained unidentified, urged the crew to enforce regulations against the two women.
As a result, the pilot opted to delay the flight until necessary bomb threat procedures could be carried out. Security agencies like CISF and BCAS were alerted, leading to the removal of the two women and their checked-in bags. They were then handed over to security authorities.
Airline sources stress the seriousness with which such incidents are handled and advise passengers to refrain from making comments of a similar nature. Despite the delay, the flight eventually took off at 7:47 am, two hours later than scheduled.
