NEW YORK- American authorities are currently conducting an investigation following a bomb threat which turned out to be a hoax made against an Air Canada (AC) flight from Halifax (YHZ) to Newark (EWR), New Jersey, on Monday.
As outlined in a statement, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey reported that Newark Airport Police received information around 12 p.m. on Monday regarding a “threat made towards Air Canada flight 8657.”

The statement further mentioned that the aircraft safely landed at Newark Liberty International Airport without any incidents, and all passengers disembarked safely with no reported injuries.
Subsequently, the Port Authority Police Department, along with its canine unit, thoroughly cleared the aircraft, leading to the resumption of normal operations.
The port authority refrained from providing additional details, stating, “There is no additional information at this time. The incident is under investigation.”
Photographs shared by a passenger on the aircraft depict numerous emergency vehicles on the runway and passengers awaiting transportation to the airport via bus.
TSB Statement
As per flight records, Air Canada Flight 8657 departed Halifax punctually at 10:59 a.m. on Monday, eventually landing in Newark an hour and a half behind schedule at 1:40 p.m.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada acknowledged awareness of the incident, stating, “From the information provided to the TSB, it does not meet the definition of a reportable incident in accordance with the Transportation Safety Board Regulations. This is a security issue that would be investigated by the police.”
A spokesperson for the Halifax Stanfield International Airport clarified that the airport had not received any threats related to the flight and had not been contacted by Newark police authorities regarding this matter.
