LONDON- Singapore Airlines (SQ) has revealed plans for a £3.5 million overhaul of its SilverKris Lounge at London Heathrow Airport (LHR), expected to be unveiled in the summer of 2024.
This initiative is part of the airline’s broader plan to upgrade its overseas SilverKris Lounges, as outlined in its Q4 financial results from the previous year.
Singapore Airlines Renovating London Lounge
The renovated lounge in Hong Kong has already reopened, although reports suggest it closely resembles its predecessor. Perth’s renovated lounge, initially slated for the end of 2023, has been delayed and is now expected to open in Q1 2024.
“With a history of over 50 years of continuous operation in the UK’s capital, London holds significant importance as a premium market for Singapore Airlines. The refurbishment of the SilverKris Lounge at London Heathrow underscores our dedication to London and promises an enhanced experience for our customers upon reopening.”
GM UK & Ireland, Singapore Airlines
The London Heathrow SilverKris Lounge, last updated in 2015, is starting to exhibit signs of aging, making this announcement a welcome development for passengers.
In anticipation of the upcoming renovations, the Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge is set to cease operations on February 8, 2024, with the anticipated completion date slated for “later in the summer.”
Upon its reopening, patrons can anticipate a revamped facility featuring:
- A 16% expansion in seating space
- An increased capacity accommodating 242 guests, as opposed to the current 208
- Upgraded and enhanced facilities.
New SilverKris Lounge
The redesign will persist in the updated “Home Away from Home” concept by ONG&ONG, incorporating elements inspired by the new flagship SilverKris Lounge in Singapore. This concept typically involves distinct areas for working, dining, and relaxation, evoking the ambiance of an upscale living room.
As a refresher, here are the additional amenities reported by MilesLion that current visitors to the London Heathrow SilverKris Lounge delight in:
It is reasonable to presume that well-received amenities such as the attended bar and a la carte dining (available for Suites and First Class passengers) will be retained, and the shower suites will undergo a similar revitalization.
Transfer to United Club Lounge
Throughout the renovation period, Singapore Airlines First Class, Business Class, PPS Club, and KrisFlyer Elite Gold members will be directed to the United Club Lounge at Terminal 2B. Positioned opposite Gate B46 and a brief stroll from the current SilverKris Lounge, this alternate lounge operates daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.
While United Clubs in the USA might not be particularly noteworthy (think trail mix and lukewarm cold cuts), the one in London Heathrow stands out as an exception. This lounge offers an impressive buffet spread all day, featuring English breakfast and afternoon tea for a touch of local flavor.
The beverage menu includes champagne, an extensive selection of made-to-order cocktails, and wines, showcasing a surprising departure from the usual United experience.
For those seeking showers, the shower suites are modern and well-appointed, complete with bath amenities from Gilchrist & Soames’ Zero collection.
