DUBAI- This week, hundreds of employees from the Emirates (EK) Group gathered in the Dubai desert to successfully establish a new Guinness World Records title for the Most nationalities in a yoga lesson.
The unique wellness initiative, designed to kick-start the new year, attracted participants from 144 different nationalities who took on the challenge at sunset.
Emirates Breaks World Record
The event highlighted the remarkable diversity within the Emirates Group, comprising a workforce of over 110,000 employees.
Notably, participants from far-reaching countries, including Chile, Peru, Mexico, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Honduras, Mongolia, Tonga, and The Bahamas, joined the initiative, reflecting the global reach of the Emirates Group.
Taking place at the expansive Al Lisaili Camp, managed by Emirates Group brand Arabian Adventures, this desert-based event marked the first time the world record attempt for the Most nationalities in a yoga lesson was held in the desert, providing a distinctive experience for participants.
The previous record, set in 2023 on the lawn of the United Nations headquarters by India’s PM Narendra Modi-led yoga event in New York City, involved 135 different nationalities.
Executive Remarks
Oliver Grohmann, Senior Vice President of Human Resources at the Emirates Group, expressed, “Today, we celebrate the diversity of the Emirates Group. Dubai is a globally renowned destination known for its attractiveness as a place to live, work, and invest. We take pride in representing a home-grown company that is genuinely multinational.
“At our groundbreaking event, UAE nationals and Dubai-based expatriates represented various countries and held diverse roles within the Emirates Group. This included Emirates cabin crew, dnata airport operations employees, safari guides at Arabian Adventures, dnata Travel experts, and many more. This event underscores our commitment to the well-being of all Emirates Group employees. It is part of an ongoing effort to promote a culture of health within our organization, with more initiatives in fitness, health, and overall well-being planned for 2024.”
The record-setting yoga lesson was conducted by Emirates Group staff, who were also trained yoga practitioners. Prioritizing wellness, a Senior Counsellor from the Group’s Psychology Unit and a certified mindfulness teacher led a well-being session to foster a healthy mindset for the new year.
A member of the dnata Travel Group team served as the DJ, providing chill-out music, and a colleague played a ‘tongue drum,’ often associated with meditation and healing.
Sustainable yoga mats, crafted from biodegradable cork, were provided to attendees, while all staff were equipped with reusable water bottles, aligning with the Group’s commitment to a zero-waste event.
