AUCKLAND- Taking a significant stride toward revolutionizing travel within Aotearoa, Air New Zealand (NZ) is collaborating with the groundbreaking satellite internet service provider Starlink to introduce complimentary internet services on board domestic flights.
Starlink will be installed on a domestic jet and, in a groundbreaking move, on an ATR by late 2024.
Air New Zealand Starlink
Following a successful trial period, Air New Zealand plans to extend the availability of Starlink Internet to other aircraft in its domestic fleet by 2025.
Starlink provides dependable high-speed, low-latency in-flight internet. With latency as minimal as 30ms, passengers will experience internet connectivity like never before.
From streaming video content to working in the air and engaging in instant messaging with friends and family on multiple devices, Air New Zealand customers will have access to the internet as if they were in the comfort of their home lounge.
Executive Insights
Nikhil Ravishankar, Chief Digital Officer of Air New Zealand, emphasizes that this partnership underscores the airline’s dedication to providing exceptional customer experiences throughout every phase of its journey.
“We’re constantly exploring how new and innovative technology can enhance customer experiences, and considering Starlink’s position as the world’s largest satellite constellation, delving into in-motion connectivity with them was an obvious choice.
“Whether traveling for business or leisure, we recognize that maintaining seamless internet connectivity is a transformative aspect of the travel experience for customers. Our popular free and accessible WiFi on international flights has set the stage, and we’re excited to extend connectivity to domestic flights.
“But rest assured, if you’re the type of traveler who values some downtime in the air, there’s no obligation to connect. You can still use the time to disconnect from the world below!”
Jason Fritch, Vice President of Starlink at SpaceX, adds, “We’re proud to collaborate with Air New Zealand in bringing Starlink’s high-speed internet to their aircraft, extending this game-changing in-flight connectivity experience to more passengers worldwide.”
