SURAT- Exciting developments are underway for Surat, as plans for direct international flights to Bangkok, Malaysia, and Singapore have been revealed, with operations scheduled to begin in 2024 from Surat airport (STV).
Sanjay Ezhava, President of the Surat Airport Action Committee (SAAC), has officially announced that Surat Airport is on track to establish direct air connectivity with Bangkok and other prominent destinations, including Malaysia and Singapore, starting from February 2024.
New Flights from Surat
Preparations are in full swing for upcoming international flight operations led by Air India (AI) Express, a subsidiary of Air India.
Currently operating the Surat-Sharjah route from Surat Airport, Air India Express, under the guidance of Ezhava, is gearing up to launch the Bangkok-Surat-Bangkok international flight service in February 2024.
The airline plans to provide three days a week connectivity between Surat and Bangkok, having completed cabin crew training for the new aircraft. Operations from Surat are expected to resume shortly, pending the arrival of the new aircraft.
Following the initiation of the Bangkok-Surat-Bangkok route, Surat is poised to establish connections with Malaysia and Singapore through Mumbai, offering three days a week service.
Reports suggest that AirAsia or Vistara are planning to commence services for Surat-Malaysia and Surat-Singapore routes, contributing to the expansion of the city’s air connectivity.
SAAC’s Persistent Efforts
Advocating for improved air connectivity over the past several years, SAAC recently submitted comprehensive statistical data to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, private airlines, and the Tata Group.
The submission prominently highlighted the success of the Sharjah-Surat-Sharjah flight route.
Operational statistics from Air India Express reveal a notable shift in passenger movement. In 2022, the airline recorded approximately 237 aircraft movements, transporting a total of 29,425 passengers with a 68% load factor.
However, by June 2023, the airline saw 164 aircraft movements, accommodating 25,291 passengers and achieving an improved passenger load of 84%.
The introduction of these direct international flights marks a significant milestone for Surat Airport and the region’s connectivity ambitions, promising enhanced convenience and accessibility for travelers.
As Surat prepares to make its mark on the global aviation map, anticipation for these new routes continues to build within the city and its surrounding regions.
