SHANGHAI, CHINA- China Eastern (MU) Airlines recently revealed its plans to initiate a non-stop route from Shanghai to Istanbul, commencing on September 28. The airline’s service seamlessly connects Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) with Istanbul Airport (IST).
It will offer travelers the convenience of direct flights three days a week. The airline will depart from Shanghai on scheduled flight days: Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
China Eastern Airlines has made an unprecedented announcement, revealing plans for a groundbreaking flight. Istanbul, uniquely positioned astride the Bosphorus Strait, which separates Asia and Europe, stands as the sole city globally spanning both continents.
The airline told China Daily that this pioneering route will mark the debut of a Chinese carrier connecting these two cities in such a manner.

China Eastern Airline Flight Schedules
At 01:30 hours local time, the flight departs from Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG), commencing a 12-hour journey to Istanbul.
The arrival at Istanbul Airport (IST) is slated for 08:30 hours local time. On the same day, the return journey takes off from IST at 14:00 hours, concluding in PVG at 17:30 hours local time, with a flight duration of 10 hours and 30 minutes.
- MU703 takes off from PVG at 01:30, touching down in IST at 08:30 hours.
- MU704 departs IST at 14:00, landing in PVG at 17:30 hours.
Besides China Eastern Airlines, Turkish Airlines operates between Shanghai and Istanbul. Turkish Airlines has 1 daily non-stop flight between IST and PVG.
- TK26 takes off from IST at 01:25, touching down in PVG at 16:45 hours.
- TK27 departs PVG at 22:25, reaching IST at 05:15 hours.
