GURUGRAM- During an announcement of delays, an IndiGo Airlines (6E) pilot was physically assaulted by a passenger on board, as captured in a viral video circulating on social media.
The footage, shared on platform X (formerly Twitter), depicts a man in a yellow hoodie rushing from the last row to strike the new pilot, who had taken over due to Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) regulations after extensive delays.
IndiGo Pilot Assaulted by Passenger
A netizen sharing the video from inside the IndiGo flight expressed astonishment, stating, ‘A passenger punched an Indigo captain in the aircraft as he was making a delay announcement.
The guy ran up from the last row and punched the new captain, who replaced the previous crew that crossed FDTL. Unbelievable!’
Here’s the video:
Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) are crucial regulations overseen by the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to ensure the well-being of pilots and flight attendants. These regulations mandate adequate rest periods and aim to address safety concerns related to fatigue.
User Response
One user on X commented, “What does the pilot or cabin crew have to do with the delay? They were just doing their job. Arrest this man and put him on the no-fly list. Publish his picture so people are aware of his bad temper in public,” in response to the video.
Another user expressed, “This person should be booked for assault as well as put on a No Fly List. While @IndiGo6E is in the news for all the wrong reasons and must be taken to task for its shortcomings, but this is totally unacceptable passenger behavior.”
A different user shared their perspective, stating, “Both airlines and the passenger are at fault here. X is full of complaints against Indigo where they are not communicating the delay and status correctly with passengers, taking them for a ride. On the other hand, no amount of frustration gives anyone the right to assault someone physically. That’s criminal.”
“Another commenter stated, ‘Both the airline and that person are at fault.’
Case Under Investigation
Simultaneously, IndiGo Airline reported that they have lodged a complaint against the passenger, and the legal process is currently in progress. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) at Indira Gandhi International Airport mentioned, ‘We received a complaint and are taking appropriate legal action.’
The DCP at Indira Gandhi International Airport further elaborated, ‘On the complaint filed by Co-Pilot Anup Kumar regarding passenger Sahil Kataria, who assaulted and misbehaved with his co-pilot during the flight from Delhi to Goa, a case has been registered under section 323/341/290 of IPC and 22 aircraft rules. An investigation is underway.’
In the midst of severe fog conditions, the Delhi airport has issued an advisory for passengers, urging them to contact airlines before embarking on their journeys.
Severe Weather
“Flight operations at Delhi Airport may face disruptions due to dense fog. Passengers are urged to check with the respective airline for the latest flight updates,” conveyed the airport authority in a post on ‘X.’
This past Sunday, low visibility and dense fog conditions in North India adversely affected IndiGo flight operations, causing inconvenience to air travelers.
According to an official statement from IndiGo Airlines, “IndiGo flight operations were impacted on January 14, 2024, due to low visibility and dense fog conditions across North India.”
On Monday, the national capital woke up to thick fog, with the minimum temperature recorded at 4 degrees Celsius in the RK Puram area.”
